Education

Education: the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgement, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life. Think about the ending words, for mature life. When there is no education, life does not mature or barely matures.

Education has been on the news for a long time. There are people for education and there are people against education. For your information, I am for education, and I do not understand how anyone could be against it. It is said that people are not against it, they just don’t want certain material presented to the children. I agree and disagree. I would say to present it as age appropriate when presented. That brings in banning books (I just saw that art is being banned also).

It is getting so bad that there are demonstrations on both sides. Remember, Hitler banned books and so has some Islam countries. Also remember, the first step to control people is to make them ignorant. We are attempting the first step, but I also see that people becoming ignorant have been slowly on the move for a long time.

What I mean by slowly on the move for a long time is that for long-time parents are not involved in the education of their children. In my day my parent made sure I did my homework every day, she did what she could to help me, and attended the PTA meetings. I did the same for my child. There are PTAs and school board meetings for the parents to come to and help, or at least express their opinion, about the curriculums for the students. The meetings used to be crowded but not anymore.

I have a problem with book-banning, but I have a bigger problem with parents gripping but they are not involved in the education of their own children. It seems that they want others to raise their children, educate their children, but they do not want verbal and physical discipline of the children. The children want to act as adults (so do the parents) but lack the training and understanding.

People want kids and some get involved with them but far too many have them and leave them. Using my era of growing up, when an adult spoke, whatever I was doing immediately stopped, I paid attention, and I did it. Today, the children do what they want to do and will talk back. In my day, talking back, arguing, and not doing something was a death sentence (not really but close).

Education is needed everywhere but when students cannot read about Rosa Parks and others, it is a sad day. There may not be an agreement on what is read but in it is at least general knowledge. I don’t understand politicians getting involved in this, it should be the parents. I had chores to do before and after school. At times I even held a job as well as what I had to do at home and then my homework. Today children have it easy and still complain. I was lucky to get six hours sleep but kids today get twice that.

Everyone needs an education, but the parents need to get back into teaching their own kids. When no one can say, touch, or have anything to do with your child, then they cannot effectively be taught. When the teacher gets hurt in class because of the unruly child, then the child cannot be taught. When the parent does not have control of their child, then the child cannot be taught. Parents…let’s educate the children before it’s too late.

A House Divided

As it is written, a divided house can not stand. The house the Republicans were trying to build have been in disarray for a few years. Their minds are so diversely divided that they can not do anything that will make all of them agree on anything. Then there is the cult leader that they are afraid to distance themselves from.

As I write this, McCarthy have gone through thirteen votes (history made here), and he still have not been elected as House of Representatives Speaker of the House. He loves Trump and it seems he is guided by him, and he does not want to do anything that will meet Trump’s disapproval. Trump endorsed many Republicans that ran for office and most of them lost that election, is this why McCarthy is having problems winning enough votes to get elected? It is too late to move away from Trump now because everyone knows who is at his side.

I am not a politician, and I am not a political expert, but I am a person that try to use a little common sense to attempt to figure things out. I am independent, I vote for whomever I believe will do the best job although I am not of the Independent Party. Through the last few years all I have heard from Republicans in Congress is to give angst to the Democrats at all costs. They don’t seem to have any ideas of their own except to say what should be done, never how and never present a bill nor compromise with a Democrat on a bill of substance.

Recently, Republicans have been elected that are not a part of the cult and want to get the party moving in way that will hopefully accomplish something of meaning. They don’t seem to want to stay on their own side but seem to want to reach across the aisle and accomplish something. They just don’t want to banish Democrats, or undo what Democrats have done for the country, nor sit idle and let the nation be shunned by the rest of the world, they want to make a difference.

However, with the Republican House being in, I believe, three parts mean each and every thing they try to do will mean chaos. Then there are the Democrats to deal with if the Republicans decide not to reach across the aisle or compromise. If the Republicans do not do what they did the last time they had the majority, which were to present bills of contention, they should be okay.

They must remember one thing, they were elected by the people and are paid to do the people’s work. Instead of doing their own thing or doing what the cult leader wants, remember what they are there for. Now all they must do is to get their house together instead of it being divided. Then and only then maybe they can accomplish something. Until the division is gotten rid of, there is no chance that any great thing will be accomplished.

So, the bottom line is, bring the party together. Do not govern by contention. Compromise. Remember the people that elected you. You are not in a cult, therefore, rid yourselves of the cult leader. And lastly, the world is watching.

Politicians

Many times, I have said, and I still say the politicians are elected to enact the will of the people that elected them. Often the politicians will do as they choose and the people that elected them be damned. They also, most of them, are out for the money that can be gotten from the campaign funds or from direct support. I cannot count the number of politicians that have gone to Congress with extraordinarily little money in their pockets and within a couple of years they are millionaires or almost millionaires.

I am middle class; I am not broke but I am not close to being rich. I get by and, through charitable donations, attempt to help others. There are many people (families) that is having a hard time making ends meet and if I have a little leftover I try to help in some way. I see millionaires/politicians that have a life of plenty, more than they and their family need but they refuse to pass bills to help the downtrodden. Do not get me wrong, there are politicians that are trying to do their best to help.

However, I remember a couple of years ago those politicians (Republican) that were for many things if it would benefit them and their party. They would not reach across the aisle and work with the other side. Now the other side have power and the things that they were for have disappeared. They still do not want to work together or discuss any topic yet trying to hoodwink the people into believing they are reaching across the aisle and they are trying to help them.

Many things they were for now they are suddenly against saying something have changed when there is no change. Bills that are attempting to help people in need they are against and, I believe, it is because the politicians across the aisle introduced them and are for them. Even when the great majority of people want the bills, they still turn their backs and are against them. Yet, they were elected to do the people’s bidding.

Then look at them continuously asking for money so they can try for reelection and they can siphon off money for themselves (there are a couple or more investigations for this). These politicians are afraid of their king and not their voters. They want their king to return, voters be damned, and for their voters to send money to them and to their king.

So, I say to you to not believe your politician and to closely look at what they do. They are masters of disguise and know all sorts of trickery. When your pockets are empty and you need a place to stay and food for your belly, do not call your politician because he will only help himself and only show sympathy. Remember, you voted for that person and there is no turning back. If you cannot open your eyes and see the snake your politicians have become, then you cannot cry about the way you are treated by them.

Let’s Come Together

COVID-19 is not “Fake News” nor is it something that is overblown to make the President look bad. It is serious business and everyone, both sides of the aisle, should come together and fight with everything available. We have, in the past, stood together and fought things that were harming the nation. In this case, it is harming the entire world and every nation in the world should join forces and fight this virus.
Today’s blog will not be long, I just want people, around the world, to listen to qualified health professionals and stop the spread of the virus. Politicians have said that we will have a cure in a few weeks but, if you listen closely, health professionals have said it will take many months. I tend to believe them instead of politicians.
Unfortunately, normal routines will be disrupted, and, for a short while, life will seem hard, if not unbearable. But life will go on and this too will pass, maybe not exactly as before but it will be better than a quarantine. I wrote in my other blog (www.faithingodministries.net) about coming pandemics and those of the ancient past. This too will pass, but we all, worldwide, must do our parts. Not one person knows it all and not one person can do it all. We all must come together and work together to beat this no matter your politics or faith.
All daily routines will seem tedious at best but if we put politics aside and do what is right, what is good for the nation, what is good for the world, we will live on to see another day. If we continue to let politics get in the way, many of us will perish, many may not be able to fight and there will be a different world.
Therefore, I am pleading with everyone to take this virus seriously and do the right things. Listen to the medical people and seriously do the things you are told. Be careful and hang in there. This COVID-19 is nothing to play with or to take for granted.

Funerals

I am scraping, at least for this blog’s issue, what I originally wrote and will write about this weekend’s funerals. We have lost two great people, in our time line, and they both will be sorely missed. These were contrasting funerals; one somber and one long with hype. Both were expected to be the way it happened.

Aretha Franklin was the Queen of Soul and will never be forgotten. Her music will live on forever. The funeral was over eight hours long and most of the entertainers of song were there. The funeral was filled with music coupled with speeches. Quite a few celebrities sang her songs and a few sang traditional songs that Blacks usually sing during high spirited church services. The eight hours were long although the music didn’t make it seem so.

She passed on as the queen she was. During her lying in state to the interment, she had three wardrobe changes and a viewing by thousands of people. She was driven in a nineteen forty nine (I think) white hearse, the same one her father was carried in. From all over the country pink Cadillacs were bought in and the long rows of cars were parked outside the church. This was in remembrance of her hit song “Pink Cadillac”. What a sight and what a way to go.

People were there that I have not seen in a long time and are very old as well. They all looked and sounded good. Stevie Wonder started his time by playing the harmonica, something I have not seen him do in many years, before he played the piano and sang. The church was jubilant with all the music and singing.

Senator John McCain’s funeral was solemn and the church was filled with dignitaries from all parts of the political world as well as both sides of the political aisle. Former President Obama and Former President Bush both spoke. President Trump was dis-invited and the eulogies, which include his daughter Meghan, took swipes at Trump. It was not a surprise.

I admired this man, not only as a military veteran but also as a politician. This was one person that was well known to reach across the aisle and work with everyone. He would disagree and, when shown something different that he could go along with, he would be man enough to agree. He did not put party ahead everything but cared about what was right, lawful, helped the USA, no matter the party view.

Unfortunately, Senator Graham, who was his very beat friend, a person that stood beside him on many, many views, and was against Trump as was Senator McCain is now staunchly in the President’s corner He has reversed almost everything he have said in the past. Oh, what can happen in a week (a day?).

So I watched funerals and I wonder, as I have in the past, what will mine be like? I really don’t want all the hoopla that go on (it’s a waste of money, in my opinion), just have a few prayers and bury me. I just hope I have lived up to the hopes and standards that was expected of me. I hope I haven’t done any wrong to anyone. I also hope I have been some help to someone that needed it. We all must pass on some day, let’s hope there is something good to say after you’re gone.

Prince/Sayings

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the passing of Prince. In the music world he was one of the greatest icons that ever was. He will be missed as his music lives on and on. He has written, co-written and influenced so much music that I hesitate listing anything. As I understand it, he has a vault containing hundreds of unpublished music. I can hardly wait for any of it to come out. He is one artist that will never be forgotten. RIP

I was a radio announcer/DJ for many years and I have had an e-mail account since the mid or late eighties. At the end of my radio shows (since the eighties) and at the end of my e-mail accounts I always closed with a saying…”Be kind to your neighbors because you’ll never know when you’ll need them. Also, ensure your words are soft and sweet because you’ll never know when you’ll have to eat them”. There are many people that need to learn that and, as for me, I try to.

Why am I relaying this? The other day, as I was sitting on an outside bench getting a little sun, an older woman with her walker passed within a foot of me. I spoke, she glanced at me, kept walking and never spoke or acknowledged that I had spoken. I knew she heard me because she did not glance at me until I spoke. Later that same day the same thing happened with another person. I began to think there was something wrong with me. That is when I started to remember the saying. If the first and second woman were to have an immediate, life threatening or not, problem both would look to me for help of some type. I then must become a good neighbor and disregard any and all prior treatment by that person. I could either be a kind neighbor or not. That is my call, depending on my feelings at the time. I could help or, being angry for treatment I previously received, go on about my business and not help.

I looked at the evening news Thursday and saw the man knocked unconscious, robbed and run over by a cab as the multitude of people stood around and did nothing to help. If it was one of them, they would want some type of intervention. Be kind to your neighbors. The man died. I could quote many more incidents from here at Imperial Plaza and elsewhere, but for brevity I will not.

The other part is about speech. Not the sound but the content. I’ll hop on a political figure although there are many more examples but this is most recent. Mr. Trump stated, many times years ago and when he started campaigning, that he was against abortion and gay people. Period. Thursday, I am guessing it’s for political reasons, he said he is for abortion in the case of rape, incest, etc and transgendered people can use any restroom they choose. What a turnaround (can someone say flip-flop). Ensure your words are soft and sweet because it may come back and bite a big chunk out of whatever. Mr. Sanders said, at the beginning of his run and like the republicans, that he would support whomever is the democratic nominee. Thursday he said only if the nominee supported his views. Were his words soft and sweet? And, what did he say about Harriet Tubman?

All I am saying is people must be careful in what they say, how they say it and what they do because they may not have a chance to correct the oversight before they are caught in the web of regretting all that they have done. It is a shame we have people, here at Imperial Plaza, that act like it’s still the nineteen fifties, sixties or before. They may be old but this is a new age and, one day, they will need help, no matter who gives it. They would let the devil help, if he would. And, last but not least, all of the politicians have said something that they should not have said and, believe me, it is recorded somewhere.

We will all need help, at some point in time, and we all should think about what we are about to say before we say it and/or acknowledge being spoken to. Many people do not and it may not be forgotten when push becomes shove.
