The Elections

Next week is election week. Here in Virginia, the governor’s election is too close to call. I voted early just like thousands of Virginians. As I have said before, I always vote for the better person, in my opinion, no matter which party they belong to. I listen closely to what the candidates are saying, and I look closely at who the person is, what they really stand for and try to guess what they would do if elected to the office.

For instance, the Republican for Virginia’s governorship is constantly saying one thing while on the speaking stage, but hidden tapes have caught him saying something different. In fact, every Republican have been caught telling lies, constantly, while the Democrats have had verbal fluffs, every now and then, or what they say is either taken out of context or twisted to mean something they did not say. I still look at the person and give the benefit of the doubt before I choose which person I am to vote for.

I also look at the party the person belongs to and understand what the party is doing or trying to do. Then I want to see if the candidate wants to help change some things in the party or help the party continue what it is doing. It makes a difference because I ask myself if I want to continue with the same old things that is giving me heart burn or do I want change. This is not a game. It is the future, and the future is not for me but for my family that is left when I am gone.

The one campaign theme that is either scaring or thrilling a lot of people is when the name Trump comes up. Trump lost this state when he was running for re-election but think the man running for governor can change things. That man has said he is running because of Trump, and he admires him. How can a person admire a one term twice impeached President?

What have my mind in a fog is why many people want this man that is against masks, vaccinations, abortion, messing with things in schools, and correct science (which include global warming). It appears every candidate for office that is Republican are all saying almost the same identical things and have the same identical mindset. They are like puppets and Trump is pulling the strings like a puppet master. I do not think they have a mind of their own.

One more thing. The Republican candidate have gotten most of his campaign money from a Wisconsin billionaire. I recently wrote a blog entitled ‘Follow the Money’. Here is further proof of that. The Republicans have deep pockets because of the billionaires that is why they do not want wealthy money taxed. The Republicans do not want to tax them because they still want their pockets (personal and party) lined.

Knowing all of what I have written and more I still say vote for the better person. Like I have said, I voted early. I say to you, remember, the way you vote will not only benefit you but your relations for years and years to come.

Keep It To Yourself

I am a pro-football fan. I watch every game I can every week. I seldom watch college football, not because I do not like it but there are so many and those that I would like to watch is not on television. I do not get into techniques or coaches, the politics, nor do I know most of the players and their bios. I just like to watch the game and, yes, I have a favorite team. I also seldom watch the talking heads, the television analysts. I cannot tell you why, I just do not. Some say, especially my wife, I am not a true football fan but, to me, I am. I just love the game in my own way.

My wife keeps asking me to go to a stadium to watch a live game. I do not want to go. I have tried to explain to her that I can sit in my mancave, relax, be warm and cozy, have my food and drink when I want it without any hassle, and if there is rain, I am dry. Another thing, I can watch a replay of a flagged call as many times as I choose, and it will be a close-up.

As far as the Jon Gruden case is concerned, I knew it would be a matter of time before the bad actions of a coach came out. In my mind, I knew some coaches has said what he has said and done in their hearts also. Jon got caught from another investigation. If not for the other investigation he would have never been caught and would have continued. He is not the only one, he just thought others thought the way he does and would accept what he wrote. They did but kept the messages that was finally read by others that eventually outed him.

I cannot feel sorry for him because, even losing his job, he is okay. He has made millions and will still make money. His family, as well as his brother, who is an NFL coach, will not suffer. People have known about this for years and have not said anything. What about them? It is okay to think it, believe it but not act upon it or write it. Keep it to yourself. If you do not want others to know, keep it to yourself. If you do not want to be caught-up in these things, keep it to yourself. If you want to keep your job and make more money, keep it to yourself (on the money issue read my other blog from last week ( www.faithingodministries.net dated 10/10/2021)).

Many, many times I want to say something about a lot of things, but I keep it to myself. If I am the only one that know, I cannot be accused of saying something that will bite me in my rear-end. If people think good about you and you have another personality that is not shown, do not write it nor say it, keep it to yourself and not a single person will be the wiser. Jon Gruden should have kept it to himself.

True History Is Not Pretty

There have been a lot of fuss about teaching history in school. In particular, what is taught about history. I agree with only one thing in history and that is some, if told correctly and factually, will be too sensitive for very young children. However, the rest of us, child and adult, does not really know the bare bones of factual history.

History have been distorted for hundreds of years and, today, it is still happening. For instance, I am presently halfway into reading “The Underground Railroad” by Colson Whitehead, who won a Pulitzer Prize. It is a fictional novel because the people names are fictional, but the story is one of many like it. It is a story that is not in history books and probably will never be.

Remember, I have only read about a half of the book, so far, and many parts I remember being told to me when I was a child, even the sensitive parts. As kids, we had to know what was out there against us. Like it has been for thousands of years, what took place years ago is passed on orally. This is still done in many parts of the world today, however, many young people do not want to hear it or call it a bunch of bullxxxx. It is said that those that do not study history is doomed to repeat the same mistakes (another say is ‘doomed to failure’).

In the start of the book, that I mentioned, it starts by telling what the slaves on this plantation were doing and how they were treated, in gruesome detail. This is factual and young children cannot deal with the descriptions without having nightmares or worst. Regardless of what have previously been told, being a slave was a nightmare. Besides the labor, all sorts of atrocities were meted upon the slaves. This certainly would not be in a history book. Much of the atrocities are too egregious for young people to hear. At the time of these things happening, the young children had to be taught what to do, say, and act to keep them as safe as possible. Most of the time it did not make a difference. It happened anyway.

Situations of this sort not only happened to American slaves but some of it happened to American Indians and others around the world, especially if they were dark skinned. History books do not properly portray Egypt as it should because most of what is written distort the truth and the truth is seldom pretty. Even the truth about Ireland is distorted, including the surrounding areas.

A few days ago, I saw a picture of a Woolworth store in Facebook and the question was does anyone remember the store. If you remembered the store, it showed how old you were. I remember it for a different reason. I grew up during segregation and I participated in sit-ins and peace marches. Only part of the truth is mentioned in the history books. Most of the full stories are never told. Only the glorious portions are ever told and just a tiny portion of the bad.

Many people say that was then and this is now. I say, just a few years ago a man in Texas was dragged behind a car with a rope tied around him until there was only a very small piece of him left. That is now, history is now, true history should be taught but with caution to the child’s age. Again, history is not pretty but we are attempting to teach something that is beautiful.
