Rehash

Yes, I will rehash some old gripes and for good reason. Only a portion of the problems have been corrected and I don’t think most of the other problems will ever be. Reason being that the problems are with the residents. If they would only do the things that they should as if they had pride in this place and themselves. This is not the project housing area and it is not a rundown section of the city. For the amount of money they pay each month to be here it seems as though they would want to keep this place as clean and beautiful as possible. But, they don’t.

I guess you are saying ‘what’s wrong now’ and I am here to blow off a little more steam, vent is another way of putting it. Dog droppings everywhere, trash scattered all over the grounds and, of those that are still driving, they and/or their guests are speeding like there is no speed limit here. Now that I have vented on that subject again, I will move on.

Ron is back. Welcome back Ron (Activities Dept.) and we all are glad to have you back, all healed from your accident and here’s wishing you and deer never meet again (LOL). Can’t wait to have you back on our next ROMEO trip and your dessert is on me.

Activities had a good trip to Maryland Live Casino and I did okay. Came back with what I took with me plus a little more. Not bad considering the last time I lost my shirt. Oh well, that’s the way of the casinos. I’ve often told people to only take as much money as you are willing to lose and leave the ATM alone.

After this holiday weekend, my wife and I are going on a Mystery Bus Tour (Tuesday) for four days and return (Friday night) to rest up for another upcoming getaway. I have no idea where we are going but I expect it to be full of fun. I am recharging my camera battery to have plenty of pictures and stories to tell. The trip should give me more ideas for stories to write with the hope of them being chosen by a publisher. I have my fingers crossed. As far as trips go, we have our next cruise (twelve days) and round trip train transportation paid for therefore we are ready to go in December. There’s a couple more short trips (not counting the casinos) coming up but I won’t mention them now. As it’s said, it’s subject to change.

It’s fun being retired and have the time and health to go wherever the wind takes you. When I was talking to Ron, he mentioned how he now realize how being retired would be. He could not work and had two months with nothing to do. That’s when we talked about how terrible it was (not counting boring) to just sit around with nothing to do and not being able to get out. Most people around here do just that and I just don’t understand it. I realize their age, however, there is so much to do here and ways to get out, even if you need a little help. But the majority of the people here just sit around and gripe about there’s nothing to do. When there is an event, trip or townhall meeting, they don’t show up and participate. They are seen later and when asked why they didn’t show up, all they say is they didn’t feel like it. There is, actually, too much to do. I can’t participate in everything but I try for what I have time for. Being retired is fun and full of adventure, simply because there is plenty of time to do it.

Well, that’s it from here. Wish all a very happy and fun filled Labor Day Weekend. I am also praying for those that are in Texas and will have to get their lives together again. I wish them all the best and my donation is in. Every little bit helps. Here’s asking everyone that read my postings to chip in also because the next time could be you.

Driving And Parking

There are times, when you are retired, that you will just sit in the shade, watch the things around you and think. The other day, while doing this, I was thinking about what I wanted to write about when I noticed the traffic and a lady trying to park her car. I then recalled the article I wrote for an on-line publication last year dealing with inattentive drivers and another on seniors and driving. I don’t want to rehash those articles so I will write about the traffic around Imperial Plaza, a gated senior community.

One would think the traffic would not be really bad here because, although the place have a little size to it, a caring person would naturally drive slowly. Wrong….speed is the name of the game and speed and/or stop signs go unseen, mostly. It is getting to be worst and worst with an accident expected any day now. I have sat and watched vehicles go through stop signs as if it wasn’t there and other traffic, not at that moment, coming from the other direction and never slowing down or come to a stop in order to see if the intersection is clear. I have watched vehicles coming from the front gate toward the Dogwood building and never slowing down before going around vehicles doubled parked before entering the blind curve to go to the rear of Dogwood. There will be an accident and it’s coming soon.

I sometimes sit on the benches at the rear of Dogwood and it’s rather funny how people park. There are more than a few vehicles with the sides scared with another vehicle’s color embedded within the long scraping dent(s). I don’t know if these dents come from happenings here at Imperial Plaza or elsewhere but, from the closeness of the parking of some vehicles, I can see how it may have happened here.

Thinking about the parking, I have seen people pull in and out of a slot three or four times and still the vehicle is not in straight or even in the center. Some of these people could not park correctly if their lives depended on it. I have seen where they would pull in correctly and redo it with an ending being positively wrong. I watched one lady, driving a new Cadillac, try to park on the end where there was a side curb. It wasn’t pretty and she never got it in straight, like the other vehicles. When she took out her walker and hobbled up the walkway, I understood why she was driving the way she did.

I can’t think of a solution to this problem although I have sat and sat thinking about it. I remember a gentleman telling me how mad he was that the doctor insisted he stop driving. There should be more of that or a lot of people are going to injure themselves, someone else or worst. As far as the speeding is concerned, all I can think of are many speed bumps, especially at the stop signs. This is private property and anything can be done, within reason, and should before someone gets hurt.

Getting off the topic, here is something that have come to my attention a few days ago. Remember when I first started writing about the troubles we are having here at Imperial plaza? When I wrote about the turnover of a lot of loved and experienced personnel? Well, it’s still going on, full steam ahead. Our head of Activities have resigned and we will miss her. I wish her well and hope to see her again. I do not know the reason she resigned but when frustration sets in, there is no recourse but to go elsewhere. I’m afraid we have not seen the end of this yet because I know of a couple more people that are thinking of doing the same thing.

Well, I guess I will sit and think and, maybe, I will come up with solutions to the many problems around here. Anything can be fixed with clear, thoughtful thinking, instead of jumping before you think about it. That is done far too often and that is why things are the way they are. With that I will stop and remind you to read my spiritual blog also ( faithingodministries.net ) every other week and comment/follow them. Both blogs appear on my Facebook page (in part) and all you have to do is click “read more”, which will take you to the blog’s site automatically.

The Great Outdoors

Those that missed the trip to Washington and the cruise on the Potomac missed a grand day.  The weather co-operated and there was no shortage of fun, good music and great food.  Ron and Tracy took a lot of pictures of people and I took many sightseeing pictures especially close-ups of the take offs and landings of the planes.  I even have some good shots of the helicopter before it landed.  From what I understand, there will be other great trips.  Don’t miss the next one.

I am still vigorously riding my bicycle and now I am all over Lakeside, Dumbarton, Stapes Mill and Broad Street.  It feels better than just riding in Bryan Park.  I am almost ready to go further than I am now but I must first get the gel seat Ron was telling me about.  My rear end is killing me.  I don’t have much back there and the bike is trying to take what’s there.  I’m sore as hell.  My legs are doing fine and, in fact, I surprised myself by getting back to Imperial Plaza quicker than intended and I wasn’t even winded.

The drivers out there are crazy dangerous and here I am on a bicycle in their way.  I had a crazy lady turn into a car lot, right in front of me, and then tried to park in the row of cars along the sidewalk.  Instead of stopping at the edge of the side walk, she went out a little further and almost hit me.  Riding a bicycle is not crazy, it’s the drivers out there that are crazy.  As I said in an article I had in Yahoo Voices, the drivers only care about themselves and, if you get in their way, you will be hurt.

There was a big accident, here at Imperial Plaza.  A woman was driving to the rear of Dogwood apartments and as she came around the corner of the building, instead of turning, she kept straight.  She hit a car so hard that she knocked it into another car and pushed both vehicles two parking slots away.  She was not injured but the vehicles were badly damaged, at least one was totaled.

Don’t forget the last blog, see me on Yahoo or contact me and I’ll tell you how.  Have fun, spring is here outdoor activities are starting and I see people in the garden plots.  Take care!!!!
